Newfie Lake

I pulled over to the side of the road to capture this peaceful spot. This is one of my faves from the entire Newfoundland trip.
1/160sec @ f6.3, 26mm. Colours pushed a bit in LR, but only to make it look like it felt.

I had an assignment in Newfoundland, and the day of my arrival was a stragely sunny day, with lovely blue skies. I took a drive up Signal Hill to the Cabot Tower. This is where Marconi received the first trans-atlantic radio transmission. That’s some ugly weather rolling in, out at the horizon.
1/200sec @ f7.1, 18mm. Just a bit of juice from Lightroom.
So yeah…a daily pic doesn’t seem to be happening. Not yet anyway. That’s still the goal, but sometimes life gets in the way. And that’s ok too.

Looking up from our family bonfire, Labour Day.
1/100sec f5 ISO100 -0.3step (with a bit of juice from Lightroom, as usual)

Shot at a friend’s toy store one evening, trying out some off-camera Strobist flash techniques.
1/125 sec f5.3 90mm ISO100 -0.3step

Playing around with some off-camera flash.
1/200sec @ f9, 22mm. A bare flash camera-right, about 4′ from my mug, and a medium softbox on camera left, a bit closer. This was before I knew ANYTHING about positioning the lights and setting the ratios etc. I’d like to think I’ve improved, but there’s definitely room to grow!

I took advantage of an opportunity to go up in the company plane for an hour or so. It was a beautiful day.
1/640 sec f6.3 at 130mm ISO200

That’s a long and somewhat freaky walk across the bridge, but so pretty. I have a 24×36 print of this in my office–really cool.
1/2 sec @f3.5, 18mm hand-held. Pretty much straight out of the camera.

Part of my responsibilities at Stantec is shooting some of the company’s engineering projects. The challenge is often to make them look pretty & appealing. This is a pulp mill, in Saint John, NB
I’ve got a 24×36 print of this in my office, and it’s fantastic.
1/500 sec @ f11, 18mm, with just a bit of Lightroom luvin.
